Will Apple have a massive wakeup call later this year?

Nearly every OEM besides Apple is now supporting, or has announced support for Flash on their mobile devices (via the Open Screen Project) … all except Apple, that is.

Will Apple have a wake up call later this year as Flash 10.1 appears inside browsers across other top tier devices? Some of the preview videos are compelling.

Sadly, this is not true for iPhone (or at least not at the time of this post):

Chuck Freedman had a recent post entitled “Why were there exciting Flash Lite devices at 2010 CES?”.

At CES, the Sony Dash, litl, and Light Touch were all Flash Enabled devices which were demoed.

Boxee box supports Flash Video

If you hadn’t heard the news, the boxee box coming out of CES (it won “Best of Show” at CES), will be supporting Flash Video among many other media when it ships.

The Boxee box (partnership of boxee and D-Link) will be able to play Adobe Flash 10.1, H.264 (MKV, MOV), MPEG-4, Xvid, Divx, WMV, VC-1 and other formats, and will feature built-in 802.11n. It will stream 1080p, play Hulu videos, as well as support for Pandora, Last.fm, Facebook, Twitter, Picasa, and Flickr. It will no doubt support additional apps, plugins, and games. Looks like it has NVIDIA Tegra 2.

It’s reported to have “Flash Player 10.1 support”. I take that to mean it merely plays Flash Videos … but, I’m not entirely sure if the UI is native, or Flash based. Regardless of the technology,the UI is very well done.

BTW: It’s reported to retail $200 when it ships.
