Happy New Year!

2009 is coming to a close, and I thought I’d take some time to reflect back on some highlights from 2009 in regards to my work (*specifically* in the Flash realm), as well as make some work related New Years resolutions for 2010.

2009 was a transition, work-wise for me, as I took on new platforms in the mobile and device space … it’s always fun learning new devices and platforms, some of which run Flash, and others which do not.

In 2009, I also did more traveling than I’ve ever done in one year (bring on those reward miles)!

Here are some of the highlights, condensed into a very short blog post.

2009 Work Highlights:

Worked on a number of Flash Mobile and Device projects (i.e. Flash Lite projects).

Worked on a project including one that involved early Flash Player 10 and AS3 on a device. Look for more of this in 2010!

AdvancED: Flash on Devices shipped in 2009! (follow up book to the 2006 book, Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices)

Expanded onto into several platforms for projects : Android, webOS, iPhone, and others.

Some Stuff I learned in 2009:

Updated myself to ActionScript 3 and Flash Player 10.x … even though I’m still doing AS2 projects on devices.

Learned Objective-C and got some of my first iPhone Development work.

Learned enough Android to do some simple projects.

Learned Palm’s Mojo platform and created some webOS Apps.

Learned some OpenFrameworks, and got more interested in Physical Computing (for fun).

… and lots more!

2009 Travel (Conferences, User Group talks, etc):

Gave a talk at Multi-mania 2009 ( Kortrijk, Belgium), “The App Store Revolution Craze”.

Attended Adobe MAX 2009 (Los Angeles) which was very cool.

Attended iPhone Developer’s Conference in Boston in October, and learned a ton of about present and potential future of the iPhone Platform.

Attended a ton of Mobile Monday Boston events, learned from a lot of folks smarter than me, and met a lot of great people in my industry (and area!).

Gave a talk at Mass Mobile on “Flash on Devices”.

Most Memorable Gadgets of 2009:

Invested into a litl webbook … one of the first “netbook” class devices on market that’s Flash Enabled (and not running Microsoft Windows).

Upgraded from my iPhone to a 3GS.

Started using my LiveScribe pulse pen … awesome for lectures and conferences!

2010 Resolutions (Flash work related):

Help make Flash and the City an awesome event in May 14-16, 2010, NY.

Get myself to FITC in Toronto (April) – I’ve missed the last 2 years (although I did make it to Toronto to FITC Mobile).

Do more technical writing (more on this soon).

Working on Android devices, even outside of the mobile realm …

Deploying more iPhone games to the App Store.

Doing more “Digital Home/Living” type projects.

More physical computing projects.

Learn everything new about Adobe CS5, including Device Central CS5 and in the ins/outs of Flash CS5 publish to iPhone.

… there are more, but I can’t reveal all my endeavors with potential competitors out there.

I met a lot of nice folks in 2009, and hope to reconnect in 2010, as well as connect with new folks. Look forward to seeing a lot of you in 2010.

Happy New Year to all, and I wish everyone love, happiness, and health in the next year!

According to the Wall Street Journal, mobile marketers spent $421 million in the US in 2006 (eMarketer). According to the Economist, the global number was $871 million in 2007 (Informa).

Who is really spending that kind of money on mobile marketing? Does this mean that mainstream advertisers have embraced the mobile opportunity?

Since Boston is a leader in the mobile advertising space, we are privileged to include some of the most experienced hands in the industry to tell it like it really is.

Our lineup so far includes…

Phuc Truong – Managing Director US, Mobile Marketing, Mobext (a division of Havas)
