Two new things of note with Janus recently:
1. Version 2.1.2 is out (and the Symbian version is free).
2. Janus for Symbian Engine has been open sourced!
From the sourceforge project:
“Janus Symbian Engine is a local http server (for Flash Lite) for Smartphones (S60), which allows developers to create engaging Flash Lite applications. It allows you [...]

Native Flash Video playback is a feature of Flash Lite 3.x for devices and, yes, there is support for both (FP 8-VP6 and FP 7-Spark codecs within Flash video for Flash Lite 3 devices supporting it.
Thus (if hadn’t already guessed), you can create your own video players (youtube player, etc) and/or tie into other online [...]

It occurred to me the other day, that not everyone understands the definition of “nth screen technology” (when it comes to mobile and devices).
Here is a “typical” breakdown of screen evolution (a Westerner’s take):
1st Screen - Film
2nd Screen - TV
3rd Screen - PC and Internet *
4th Screen - Mobile and Devices
However, depending on your region [...]

KuneriLite launched a new plugin enabling Flash Lite animated ringtones to Nokia Series 60 devices.
Animated ringtones (or “Chaku-flash”) had been possible in Japan for quite a while on supported handsets (using Flash Lite), but KuneriLite has now made it possible on Nokia S60 devices as well.
“KuneriLite Ringtone plug-in can launch any SWF when voice [...]

Attention: For those playing … don’t worry, I’m not posting any “spoilers” here! (Well, I don’t think so!)
A while back Nokia launched an interesting site called: openatownrisk.com
What’s going on? - “Hundreds of years ago, scientists, artists and members of Royal families gathered to produce a clip of grand weirdness.
A clip stranger and more amazing [...]

Persistent Data in Flash Lite
Just a reminder, but on August 6 this week (in the APAC region), Dale is giving an Adobe eSeminar - Persistent Data in Flash Lite.
Thoughts on Persistent Data with Flash on Devices
This reminds me, that earlier this year at CTIA, I had a chance to speak with some of the Symbian [...]

Here is a nice interactive Flash (Video) piece from Nokia called FaceTheTask which is promoting the upcoming Nokia N96.
They call it a multimedia computer … I won’t argue, until I have it in hand to decide.
Certainly the N95 and E90 changed the way I interact with the world … just as well as a [...]

Nokia Flash Lite Components:
I just read via Mark’s blog that Nokia released a set of components for Flash Lite (with documentation and sample assets). Check out his thoughts.
Example Components from Adobe MaD:
Some time ago, Mark posted some Flash Lite 1.1 and 2.x component examples that had been utilized in some form or fashion by [...]

Kind of old news this past week, but: “Mobile leaders to unify the Symbian software platform and set the future of mobile free” … but I wanted to post about the deal that was announced not too long ago … because it will be very important to the evolving mobile device platform playing field (IMHO).
If [...]
