So, if you hadn’t caught the news this week, Adobe released the schedule for the upcoming Adobe MAX conference to be held in Los Angeles later this year from October 4 to October 7.

In terms of mobile sessions? Well, if you had not heard the news (actually, Shantu just talked about it in his recent Adobe Q2 statement); Flash 10 is coming to a range of top tier SmartPhones platforms (e.g. webOS, Android to name a couple) over the course of the next year.

Given the still recovering U.S. economy, and the fact that the Flash 10 roadmap is getting closer, Adobe has decided to manage a lot of the sessions internally (using Adobe team members) to speak about the latest Flash 10 endeavors they are currently working on (e.g. “Flex Mobile” and AIR on Mobile) which will roll out towards end of this year, into 2010.

It’s important to note that AIR will (likely) not ship until 2010 according to Adobe. Also, if (Flash Lite) history has taught us anything previously with mobile devices, it’s that adoption is using slower than one would ideally like. But it’s still cool to talk about what’s coming next in Adobe Mobile, so they’re doing that.

If you check out the schedule, you’ll see some sessions such as:

Sessions:

• Preview: Flex for Mobile Devices

• Preview: Adobe AIR Applications on Mobile Devices

• ELIPS 3.0: Mobile Flex Toolkit

• Open Screen Project: What it is and why you should care

• What’s New in the Flash Player

There is also pre-conference training:

• Flash Lite: Developing and Distributing Mobile Applications

Labs:

• Bootcamp: Multiscreen Streaming Video

• Bootcamp: Multiscreen Development

(Personally, I think it should be Multitarget, not MultiScreen!)

Of course these are only the mobile specific sessions, there are tons more valuable sessions to attend the conference for. You can check out, using the newly released scheduler.

You can register for MAX, here

P.S.

Those interested in learning how to development for both Flash Lite and Flash 10 devices, should
check out the book myself and coauthors have been creating over the past few months:

AdvancED Flash on Devices:
Mobile Development with Flash Lite and Flash 10

We hope to have this out relatively soon, for the community at large interested in developing for mobile using Flash.

A few Flash Mobile developers have encountered this problem, so I’m posting about it.

Not sure the exact cause or why it’s sporadically affected developers, but I do know Dale, Darren, and possibly even Peter Elst have recently encountered it.

If you are working with Adobe CS4, and find that Flash CS4 stops launching Device Central CS4 with a nasty error message pictured below that says “Device Central CS4 stopped working”, then you may be afflicted with this issue (not sure if it appears on the Mac, but no doubt it will have a similar message, if so).

“Device Central CS4 stopped working” issue (under Windows Vista, not sure what the result would be under OSX)

Anyways, instead of reinstalling CS4, here’s a potential fix to try (kudos to Darren, who informed me the solution might be to delete the DeviceCache.bin file).

1. Find the DeviceCache.bin file under:

WINDOWS VISTA
\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Device Central CS4

WINDOWS XP
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\ApplicationData\Adobe\Adobe Device Central CS4

MAC
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Device Central CS4

2. Rename the DeviceCache.bin file to DeviceCache.bin.old (or, something else)

3. Reboot Flash CS4 and publish a SWF out into Device Central CS4. Does it now launch without error?

4. If yes, then great, otherwise restore your DeviceCache.bin.old back to DeviceCache.bin and contact Adobe tech support, or … post on forums, blogs, etc.
