Augen Gentouch (Android) tablet acquired
July 29th, 2010 by scottjanousekThis week, Augen launched a $150 Android based tablet that is selling here in the US at Kmart (yes, the very same one Rain Man talked about).
It’s running Android 2.1, and although it doesn’t support Flash (not sure if it will, actually since it’s only 800 Mhz and defintely not a SnapDragon class processor) … it is pretty compelling for folks who have never touched (or can’t afford) an iPad and want a really cheap tablet to surf websites and do really minimal tasks.
I captured my overall impressions on a FlipCam video in an unboxing video, but my driver has gone to hell on OSX, and the flipcam app keeps crashing so I can’t upload.
As soon as I have my windows netbook up and running I’ll upload there.
To sum up, it’s no iPad … but if $150 is what this gets you with Android … I’m pretty excited about tablets that have price points in the 500 or 600 USD range will support and do … and those should be coming shortly to mass consumer market.
