Adobe now has the (obligatory) Digital Magazine Experience that’s penetrated some of the youtube scene.

First time I caught it was a the ESPN vision piece. I also saw some mockups of e-magazines on Apple devices (even before the iPad was revealed).

Adobe’s vision is a different one, it’s built (or at least the prototype UI is built) using Adobe AIR. In my opinion, it’s much more refined than the others:

Transforming the Magazine Experience with Wired

How much of the video is real and how much is “smoke and mirrors” (i.e. After Effects) is something that has not been mentioned. I imagine it it were completely real, they’d already be shipping … price point, and I imagine the state of Adobe AIR (currently internal alpha state), is what is keeping these kinds of experiences at bay … but 2010 is quickly dissipating, so soon this kind of stuff will be found in the market place as 10.1 appears on new devices this year.

Now, the big question … will Apple’s iPad steal the show in the tablet market like the iPhone did? I doubt it. OEMs have become “hip to the game”. There’s some compelling tablets coming to market to compete with iPad. It’s going to be a battle to see who the big players are in the tablet and other new markets outside of mobile.

meh, it’s all smoke an mirrors, a desperate attempt to ride on the iPad hype. I don’t see anything there that *requires* a touch screen, so why hasn’t their website been like this for years?
