AS3 Geolocation API codesnipit from Adobe Evangelist, Lee Brimelow
December 18th, 2009 by scottjanousekLee’s put out a sample of how to tap into GPS using ActionScript 3 on devices that support Flash Player 10.1 (including the iPhone when CS5 is used to publish out SWF byte to native iPhone byte).
Now, if you hadn’t heard the news, Adobe’s not putting out a Adobe CS5 public betas, but instead working hard to push the final bits out to customers early next year.
This 10 lines of code has been a possibility with Flash Lite via products like Kuneri Lite, or even Nokia Platform Services API, but it’s just never had the particular attention of Adobe Evangelists because it had been AS2, not AS3. A sad reality.
I’ve built a few applications which tap into GPS with Flash Lite in the past, but it’s always been through 3rd party products … now that Flash Player 10.1 API has built in AS 3 classes it’s going to be really cool to build apps in 2010.
Now the only question is which device manufacturer which ship a Flash Player 10.1 device to market, first, which developers can use to code against with ActionScript 3.

Yeah unfortunately I have shied away from Flash mobile development because of AS2. But also because of the lack of devices in the US. Now it’s all about to change!

Yes, it’ll be very cool, I think.
