Last week, I was invited to speak at FlashPitt, a relatively new comer Flash event (2nd or 3rd year?) based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Day -1
The trip started with me flying from Providence, RI to Pittsburgh (via Baltimore). Can I tell you how awesome SouthWest airline is? It is.

Anyways, I rolled into Pittsburgh on Wed last week, where the gracious organizer Val performed a perfectly executed “pick me up” (thanks, again Val!).

From there, I quickly realized I was glad I had no Patriots gear on me … for if ever a city I thought was fanatic, this one was about the Steelers. This was Steeler’s Country, gosh dang it, everywhere you look! ;)

Wednesday night, Val, myself, Julian and Josh, and Joe went to a Taco join somewhere in town, which was quite nice.

Day 0
On Thursday, there was some workshop training and what not going on. I decided to work, which was probably the best option. I did get to see some of Pittsburgh, which was nice, but it was raining so it sure put a damper on things … but at least it wasn’t snow! ;)

Thursday night brought on the Speaker dinner where all of us headed over to enjoy some more cuisine.

Day 1
Friday, Day 1, started early with the inspirational talks from a few of the speakers. All of them were very good, and I especially liked Josh’s because I had no idea what he would talk about.

From there during the day, I managed to catch some sessions from Josh Sager, Stacey Mulcahy, Julian Dolce, Seb Lee Delisle, Jer Thorp (not in that order). Each one brought something new to the table, and it was a really good blend of technical, inspirational, and awareness at the conference. In particular, I liked seeing Stacey’s preso: Plays Well with Others and Seb’s preso : Work/Play, as I missed them at Flash on the Beach a few weeks back.

My session
My talk was an technical and “awareness” talk about Flash across devices: Brewing Non-PC Flash Experiences. Of course, this was coming right off of Adobe MAX 2009 announcements, so I had to make some last minute amendments based on all the goodies Adobe pushed to us in the community.

After Conference Dinner/Party

After the conference a few of us headed out to eat, and then we headed over the FlashPitt after party at a bar. Pretty cool.

Flash Pitt 2010?

Be sure to join the flickr group, twitter, and Facebook to make sure you’re on board for next year’s event! Also check out the blog, and sign up for notifications.

I give a big thumbs up to Val and her crew for organizing the event, and recommend all those in the general area make a trip down to next year’s event.
