Google acquired On2 Technologies this month
August 31st, 2009 by scottjanousekIf you hadn’t heard the news earlier this month, On2 technologies was acquired by Google.
On2 VP6 codec has been used in Flash since version 8 (native .FLV, or Flash Video) and is very popular for video streaming services these days (e.g. hulu, and many many others)!
Sorry for the delay in this news, but this post has been sitting in my “blog post queue” for a while.
Here’s the press release.
With Flash Lite 3.x also supporting native Flash Video (.FLV), and this news, I’m sure we’ll see Google do some really cool things given that Flash Lite support is already appearing on current Android handsets (e.g. HTC Hero), and future Android based devices (not just handsets!).
