Being “Geordi LaForge” with myvu glasses and N95/IPod Touch

Me, playing Flash Lite video content on Myvu Solos from my Nokia N95
Myvu - “video eyeware”
I’m not sure when I got my first myvu glasses (check them out), but from the looks of their website (www.myvu.com), they’ve gone through several renditions of the product, and now offer up a series of them (probably hoping to test the market for the best form and style factor).
One of the biggest limiting factors I found when I originally got mine (the solo plus), was that no eyeglass shop I could find would do custom lenses for the device … as it was “too much trouble”. This was interesting because the market is full of us slightly “sight-challenged”, geeks. lol.
Anyways, only just recently, I found out that myvu actually offers a custom lense attachment set which includes a couple of magnifications, as well as a blank template which you can give to lense providers to customize with your RX. Pretty cool. I got mine out of the closet when I found out about this …
Now, I don’t intend to walk down the street with these “bad boys”, but I always did want to watch movies, etc while on flights (those without screen displays on headrests, that is) via my various mobile devices, in private fashion.
Watching on the actual mobile device works … but it can be tiresome, because you must hold the device, and sometimes (depending on screen size) that can get uncomfortable really quick. Plus, you have all the curious passengers watching your gaming, your favorite movie, or trying to read your private email, mobile surfing, etc.
With a universal attachment for the myvu, it’s possible to hook directly into the myvu from many devices, including N95 (via TV out) and the iPod touch. Pretty cool. You can watch movies, etc in the privacy of your own little “viewing room”. Kind of neat.
OK, so you do look like Geordi LaForge … but hey, he was cool. Well, not as cool as Scotty was on Original Series, but still …
I wish myvu would send me an updated prototype to test. I have a feeling my older solo model is a bit dated in terms of profile, hardware refinements, not to mention video quality!
Check out the newest model: the Crystal with (Full VGA, 4 hours of battery life, etc). Looks like a sweet toy.
Micro and Device Projection Technology
Now, I wonder when embedded mobile device projection systems will hit the marketplace … I’d had seen prototypes by OEMs and companies such as microvision … but I don’t think there are any devices shipping right now … that’ll be interesting … people projecting their content all over the place.
Sounds kind of problematic, but maybe in certain areas, it’ll be cool … like business meetings, or social events, etc. We’ll see. Myvu display technology is still cool when it comes to the privacy, issue.

Those things are awesome. You can try them out at Brookstone. I worry that soon they’ll find out it’s not so good for your eyes to have a 40ft image so close to them. Kind of like listening to too high a volume on your headphones — but for your eyes.

Cool, thanks for the tip Chuck. I haven’t been into a Brookstone in a while … probably because it’s not yet Christmas, time.

they look cool, I can see them being almost ideal for my commute on the subway. Unfortunately if you wear glasses (like me), the myvu glasses may be useless.
