Text’ing Speak 101 conventions from T-Mobile USA
October 18th, 2008 by Scott JanousekI got some marketing literature from GSM (underdog) T-Mobile USA. It has some good “TXT’ing 101″ tid-bits, that I’ll share in this post.
Yes, we more than still have silly adverts about TXT’ing and voice plans here in the US … although, data and mobile services are growing and thriving businesses, as mobile devices become even more of a necessity rather than a luxury item here in the US.
Our mobile culture has changed significantly over the last 2-3 years, for sure! (cough, part of what I deem the overall “iPhone catalyst”! particularly with Mobile Web and mobile content consumption).
Anyways, back to TXT’ing … these are some shorthands you can use in SMS messages.
Most you may already familiar with them, given they are from legacy from e-mail conventions, but a couple were new to me (maybe because they are so obscure, like “k” instead of “OK”).
Regardless, I’m spreading the word in a short post.
TXT’ing shorthands:
? = I have a question
k = OK
jk = just kidding
btw = by the way
dk = don’t know
ttyl = talk to you later
pcm = please call me
bc = becausecul8r = see you later
2g2bt = too good to be true
h&k = hugs and kisses
fofl = failing on the floor laughingThere are also some emoticons in the literature:
= wink
= tongue out (kidding)
=( = Sad
= Broad Smile
O:-) = Angel
Enjoy.
