Mobile Life (USA) #1 - SIM pop’in makes ‘Hulk-like-Apple’, ANGRY
February 18th, 2008 by Scott JanousekI’m starting a new initiative: Mobile Life … feel free to join in, at anytime … basically just name your post “Mobile Life (<Your Region>) #Post Number” … and then the rest of your title for what is happening in your mobile life, in your region on occasion (no need to post every day).
Why am I starting this? There is far too much non-communication between regions on what is happening within the Flash mobile community. This is an effort to leave little tid-bits about what mobile life is like, elsewhere … to educate, if you will.
With that said … here’s my #1.
SIM pop’in makes ‘Hulk-like-Apple’, ANGRY
Today I went to Apple Store to checkout the new MacBook AIRs first hand … pretty cool. I was surprised by how fast the Solid State versions of the MBAir were. Here’s to cheap, high capacity SSD’s in all laptops soon.
Anyways … before I left, I picked up a few things along the way … and wanted to record my in store Apple experience for the month.
I wanted to record on qik.com … unfortunately, my SIM was stuck in an my iPhone instead of my N95 …
Now, in most other civilized mobile worlds this would not be a big deal … but as you can imagine, it is with Apple policy. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my trusty paperclip.
After asking for one, I got a lot of unhappy smiles, and angry looks … I suppose they guessed I wanted to pop my SIM (I guess my N95 was a dead give away … apparently they don’t like highly polished Finnish made products?).
So … for the first time ever I felt unwelcome at an Apple store. ;(
Luckily, the folks over at LuckyBrandJeans were happy to give me at thumb tack … I was able to record some video of the MacBook Air on my N95 via qik.com.
All in all, my thought is … here’s to dropping AT&T like a hot potato after the initial partnership contract between Apple and AT&T expires (what is it, like 2 or 3 years)?
I guess in the meantime, I’ll always carry a pin, tack, or paperclip … No AT&T for me, thanks very much. I like choice.
Locking is such a medieval process!
