Flash Enabled Handset Forecast Report for 2007 (91% Growth)
January 8th, 2008 by scottjanousekThis has already been posted about within the Flash Lite community … but in case you missed it; there is a 55 page paper Strategy Analytics has put together called “Flash-Enabled Handset Forecast: 91% Global Growth in 2007 as Flash Lite Gains Momentum outside Japan”.
Here is a synopsis:
Adobe’s Flash Lite technology has taken off rapidly in the last 18 months. Cumulatively, over 301 million FL devices, of which over 90% are cellphones, have been shipped since 2003.
The base continues to strengthen in Japan, but in 2008 we will see shipments of Flash Lite-enabled cellphones in the rest of the Asia Pacific region and Western Europe exceed shipments in Japan for the first time since the launch of Flash Lite.
A further 1.4 billion FL-enabled phones are expected to be shipped globally over the next three years alone, at which point over 46% of phones shipped are likely to support Flash Lite.
This report gives a global forecast of the market for Flash Lite-enabled phones with detailed analysis of 23 countries, and splits by Flash Lite version, air interface and network operator.
The author is Stuart Robinson (non-Adobe), and it was published on 4 Jan 2008.
Both Bill Perry (Adobe) and Mark (Adobe) both posted about these stats:
• 1.4 billion mobile phones will support Flash Lite by 2010
• 46% of mobile phones in 2010 will support Flash Lite
• 301 million devices shipped since 2003
• 270.9 million mobile phones run Flash Lite currently
• Shipments in W. Europe and Asia will exceed Japan shipments in 2008
… leading me to believe that the 55 pages are probably also a good source of info (although I have yet to read this report in it’s entirety).
