Latest Keitai from KDDI comes with Flash Lite 2 support

Bill (who is in Japan right now for Adobe MAX) had a recent post about some of the latest KDDI devices that are launching as part of KDDI’s Autumn/Winter collection.

These devices have Flash Lite 2 support for downloadable content, and personalization. Bill is looking into specific capabilities, and may post more soon.

Check out their marketing launch site for autumn & winter, it’s very slick in terms of experience.

KDDI autumn/winter device collection

Unfortunately (for a lot of us overseas), the collection includes devices that Westerners will not likely ever physically touch anytime soon (unless you are in Japan, that is)!

Nevertheless, it is interesting to see what KDDI is producing these days (as well as the similarities and differences between mobile cultures).

The collection includes the following models:

  ▪ Infobar 2
  ▪ W56T
  ▪ W55T
  ▪ W54S
  ▪ W54SA
  ▪ W53H
  ▪ W53K

I imagine some of these devices listed will be slated for a Device Central Profile update. For now, as Bill mentioned, there is a handy online lookup sheet to figure out the device capabilities in terms of Flash Lite (Chaku-Flash, 1.1 versus 2, etc).

Speaking of the former (“Chaku”), Alessandro had made a post about how OEM’s outside of Japan should be taking full advantage of Flash Lite capabilities and developing new content types such as animated ringtones. It would be nice if this came to light, as possible additional content area Flash Lite could shine.

We’ve (the Flash Lite community) been thinking/talking about this for quite a while. Personally, I think it would be a popular feature … that could help sell more handsets (FYI: Priority #1 on OEM’s agenda).
