Hi all, one of the newest Chumby arrived a few days back (see below on how to put your name in for one), here are some recent photos.

Here are some photos:

Chumby (Rear aka the “Chum-butt” … not to be confused with Chum-Booty, that is something else. :) )

The Chumby has become my “fourth almost always-on glanceable display”. What are #1, #2, and #3? One and two are my dual 20″ Dell LCDs, #3 is my MacBook Display … I’m not counting all my mobile devices here, folks!

How can I preorder?:
A few hours ago, I noticed via engaget that the store.chumby.com a page is now available, so you can get your name in and be notified when they are ready for sale to the public.

Yes, this means you can now officially put in an request for a “classic” production line chumby.

Go ahead, get your name in there over at http://store.chumby.com.

So … What do I get?:
So for $179.95 USD, what do you get when it ships? Here’s what you get in terms of hardware (not to mention all the love and attention your chumby will give to you sending down SWF based widgets):

  ▪ Wi-fi connectivity
  ▪ Access to the free Chumby Network
  ▪ Over-the-air software updates
  ▪ 3.5″ LCD color touchscreen
  ▪ Two external USB 2.0 full-speed ports
  ▪ 350 MHz ARM processor
  ▪ 64 MB SDRAM
  ▪ 64 MB NAND flash ROM
  ▪ Stereo 2W speakers
  ▪ Headphone output
  ▪ Squeeze sensor
  ▪ Accelerometer (motion sensor)
  ▪ iPod® support
  ▪ Leather casing
  ▪ AC adapter included

It’s all spelled out on their new pre-order page.

Flash Lite 3:
In terms of Flash on this device … if you were not aware, the Chumby is one of the first consumer electronic devices (that I know about), to have a Flash Lite 3 player implementation!

Since Flash Lite 3 supports native video, I’m sure many developers out there that are reading, are already thinking of the possibilities!

If you attend the Flash Lite 3 meeting at the BFPUG (Boston Flash Platform User Group) meeting next week, I will have the device (in case you think I somehow photoshopped a mock device :) ) and sample Flash Lite content at hand for discussion.

I have more items to discuss, but more on this later!
