‘Super’ Smartphones coming?
August 24th, 2007 by Scott JanousekVia Technologies has managed to shrink an integrated motherboard down to 3″ by 1.7″ (smaller than the size of a standard business card).
Nothing surprising, just a bit of Moore’s law here.
Currently dubbed the “Mobile ITX” board, it has a low power consuming Via C7 CPU, memory, and chipset with integrated graphics and video capabilities.
Why am I posting? Well …
It’s innovations such as this that might provide some the needed muscle for more processor intensive content that we want to do with Flash and other mobile technologies … of course, we can do quite a bit today, but smaller … better, faster always helps on the hardware end of things.
Are we looking at some of the backbone of a “super smartphone”? A new category or range of devices? Not clear yet. No detailed specs have been posted.
Will we have really fluid Papervision experiences on handsets not too far from today? I can’t say … but many of us are already thinking about it … just a matter of “when” …
In regards to the “Mobile ITX” board … not much info on Via’s site, but there are some youtube videos if you search.
