Contrary to many of the numerous claims and speculations about the iPhone and Flash, there is now some empirical evidence coming from Bill Perry (flashdevices.net), who recently acquired the device.

Basically, from what was posted (numerous realworld on-device test cases), the iPhone is NOT Flash friendly (yet).

I did read however, that there is now a system restore for the device. Why is this important? Well, it’s usually the first step in reverse engineering and hacking a device. If this happens, I may have to reevaluate the investment … if it can “opened up” to support more functionality. There is some discussion here. For now, I’m sticking with my other devices (my Nokia N95, etc) for both daily and business use.

In regards to iPhone hardware … one thing I did come across recently was some iPhone hardware specs … from this, and some of the existing reference platforms for Flash and Flash Lite on devices, one could probably make a good educated guess as to what could potentially run on this particular iPhone model right now …

Anyways, I think one thing is pretty evident, in order to provide the most satisfying mobile web browsing experience, Apple is going to have address Flash sooner or later (here’s to hoping for the former, rather than the later).

In the meantime, users will have to be content with 3rd party mobile web apps, games, etc

Chris, thanks for that link. Seems to be a lot of parodies floating around, but that one is well done.

Someone posted about some further speculation on a potential update with Flash, but I’m skeptical.

I do, however think they’d (Apple) be pretty idiotic not to have a player on it when the 2nd generation rolls around.

Well the second generation is here and there is still not flash.
