“The Lion City” - MAX AP 2006 (Singapore)
November 4th, 2006 by Scott JanousekNext week I am giving a talk on Flash Lite on Nokia Series 40 at the MAX AP 2006 event in Singapore.
I have never been to this part of the world, so I am looking forward to it (well, maybe not the part about living on planes for an entire day!).
I am also excited about meeting up with other people from around the world to talk about Flash Mobile, and portable devices in general.
I’ve read quite a bit on Singapore, so it’s seems very modern, and yet culturally diverse, much like the melting pot we have here in the US, only on a much smaller scale (I think I read somewhere, Singapore is about the size of Chicago).
I’m just worried about all the nice pretty gadgets they may have there that I may be tempted to buy. When I was in Las Vegas at MAX, I avoided to the temptation to gamble, but in Singapore, I may have to surrender to my weakness for shiny new (foreign) gadgets!
I also have to be careful not to j-walk there! This is something I have learned to do quite well here in Boston, but unfortunately, they frown very heavily upon that there (among many other things).
Strangely enough, I caught a glimpse of a show on TV the other day, called “5 takes”, where a group of individuals travels around the US. It was interesting that the show started in Las Vegas with several people from the APAC region (one from Singapore actually). Having just been to Vegas, it was interesting to get a foreign “take” on it (there was even an Aussie that reminded me of Dale!.).
When I find time I’ll have to sum up both my back to back trips … but do, however, look for pictures soon.
For now, take care.
P.S.
Something I picked up from a text … there are no lions in Singapore, so “City of the Lion” is a misnomer. Apparently, some British mistook Tigers (who I believe no longer inhabit the area) for lions when they first established the city as a port …

[...] I picked up the iRiver s10 while I was in Singapore (it’s not shipping here in the US, and not sure about elsewhere). There’s a recent comprehensive review over at pocketables.net. It is not Flash Lite enabled, but it makes the idea of a Shuffle, (aka no display), well … sort of silly. [...]
