MAX 2006 - 1st post
October 23rd, 2006 by Scott JanousekYes, I made it to MAX, here in Las Vegas. My brother likes to joke and calls it “Lost Wages”, but I have seen some people beating the odds, so its encouraging …
A couple months ago I watched a DVD called “Breaking Vegas” … a documentary about MIT students beating the odds with a blackjack “system” that involved a bit of everything (card counting, etc) … if I recall it took place in the 90’s, and the MIT professor who organized it even went so far as to incorporate a company out of the idea, draw investments to use to bankroll their gameplay, and even managed to make a few bucks (a million?) before it all fell apart … it was a global operation with multiple MIT weekend student players who gambled casino’s and resorts around the world. Eventually the casino security caught on, and they started to incorporate disguises … finally, it just plain feel apart … although I heard that it does happen on a smaller scale today.
But I disgress, so far I’ve seen quite a bit of Flash Mobile folks lurking around. One day sessions are today. I think there are one or two on Flash Lite Application Development (of course you probably won’t be able to get in, unless you registered ahead of time and put forth some cash … but you can try).
They are still finishing up the conference layout here a day before the 1st official day of sessions, but it’s looking like it’s going to support quite a number of people here. It’ll be bustling with activity … so much so, it’ll be impossible to catch everything!
I’ve try to be good about posting during the event, but we’ll see how it goes. Check out the flickr photostream for an occasional lifeblog posting … but don’t expect me to spell check or grammer check, as I may be posting from a device, or perhaps even a kiosk.
My session is on Wednesday and is on Creating Flash Content for Portable Consumer Electronic devices (MD201W, is the code, I believe). I’ll be talking about the u10, Clix, e10, viliv p1, and a bit of PSP. Hope to see some familiar as well as fresh new faces there.
Also, I am leaving on Friday, so if anyone wants to get together and do something on Friday, let me know.

Cya round.
P.S.
I heard rumors they pump in pure oxygen into casino’s … I have always wondered if this was true, or merely an “urban myth”. From breathing the air, it seems to me to be the former rather than the later.

Its a myth. It does make sense to some degree, but if they were to pump oxygen into the casino it would provide one hell of a fire hazzard. The fire marshal would never allow it. That being said, im sure they do purify the air as much as possible!

Right, good point … I’m sure there would be some considerations to make in terms of mixture to air ratio if it were true!
The air is much cleaner here than Boston, though!
Also, I do know they have oxygen “bars” in some cities, but I’ve never been to one. It would be interesting to try at least once.
