If you’re looking to save a few bucks on a plane ticket to MAX 2006 you might want to check out SouthWest Airlines (US domestic flights).

I’ve never flown with them, but I’ve heard only good things.

Apparently they keep their prices low by employing smart business practices, like hedging on fuel prices (among other things). They are also one of the few select airlines that offer 1-way tickets. They have a central hub in Las Vegas … which is where you ideally want to be from October 23-26, 2006.

Again, I’ve never flown with them personally, so I’m just relaying the info.

The only downside I see is that they only operate out of a select number of cities, so you may have to drive a short distance to get to the nearest departure terminal.

Feel free to check them out and possible give them some (more) business.

I also welcome any comments here from people who have flown it recently.

Ya, SW is very huge on the west coast. It’s total budget flying. The other way they get their costs down is they don’t need to employ the complex systems and logistics needed to utilize a reservation system.

Depending on when you get your ticket printed you are clumped into A, B, or C groups. Each group represents a line at the gate, and A gets to go first, and so on…

So if you want a seat at the front of the plane, you’ll want to print your ticket out at home 24hrs before the flight. People are very hip to this, so the A slots get used up in a matter of hours.

I think people like SW because they’re fast and efficient, and you get what you pay for (and they’re converting all seats to leather too). Bring your own meal - they just provide snacks.

Used to have a “travel job” and flew SWA a lot. I actually preferred them to a lot of the other carriers for their low key attitude and great customer service. I second Tariq’s recommendation to check in online the night before to get your A card. :D And if you snag an aisle seat in the back third of the plane (instead of the front) you are more likely to get the row to yourself!
