Used to have a "travel job" and flew SWA a lot. I actually preferred them to a lot of the other carriers for their low key attitude and great customer service. I second Tariq's recommendation to check in online the night before to get your A card. :D And if you snag an aisle seat in the back third of the plane (instead of the front) you are more likely to get the row to yourself!

Ya, SW is very huge on the west coast. It's total budget flying. The other way they get their costs down is they don't need to employ the complex systems and logistics needed to utilize a reservation system.

Depending on when you get your ticket printed you are clumped into A, B, or C groups. Each group represents a line at the gate, and A gets to go first, and so on...

So if you want a seat at the front of the plane, you'll want to print your ticket out at home 24hrs before the flight. People are very hip to this, so the A slots get used up in a matter of hours.

I think people like SW because they're fast and efficient, and you get what you pay for (and they're converting all seats to leather too). Bring your own meal - they just provide snacks.
