Flash Lite 2.1 for BREW announced
May 31st, 2006 by Scott JanousekYep, this is now public knowledge.
The Flash Lite implementation for BREW will be 2.1 . 2.1? Yep. If you check out the FAQ, you can glean a couple new features that differientates it from 2.0 …
Flash Lite 2.1 is based on Flash Player 7 and supports ActionScript 2.0. Key features include XML data handling, persistent data management, inline text support, keypad/keyboard support, XML sockets and more.
Also, this Flash Lite implementation will be installed OTA (over the air). This is what many of us were talking about in 2005. Now it is (almost) a reality here in the US.
Imagine that! We’re ahead of the APAC region. Well, maybe not with our hardware, but software nevertheless …
When a user selects an application or piece of content based on Flash Lite, the Flash Lite BREW extension is automatically downloaded over the air, immediately “Flash enabling the handset.
Lastly, there’s been a question about how well apps would translate from other platforms/implementations … this is comforting: … and the great thing is they also work on Nokia S60 handsets with very minimal changes.
Check out the FAQ and datasheet for more information. Also check out the BREW development center on the Adobe mobile site. Keep aprised of all that’s happening at the BREW conference this week over at Bill’s blog.
Will Verizon be the NTT of the US? The epicenter of widespread Flash Lite adoption and domination?!

Whoa. This could be the magic bullet to silence all the cynics around us. Honestly with the integration issues Flash Lite faced even at the end of 2005, I saw no easy or obvious road and wondered if the shoe may drop. But reading it here… they really seem to have hit the nail on the head, or at least are heading down the right road. I’m in awe.
