Helio “Mobile Flash” might not mean what you think

Apparently the “Mobile Flash” that Helio has listed on their devices *might not be* “Flash Mobile” as we all know it. If this is the case, it’s quite a lousy term to use.

After speaking with at least 3 tech support “specialists” and getting conflicting reports, they are finally telling me “Mobile Flash” means the “ability to download images within the browser”. However, I’m still skeptical based on the technical responses I got. If I spoke Korean I’d make a direct call to the source to get a definitive answer on this.

However, that’s not to rule out the possibility that the device is using Flash as Pantech (they make the Helio devices) has had dealing with Adobe before. I’m not saying it does one way or another.

After playing around with the device I’ve found some areas where they *could* be leveraging Flash in the UI. However, that remains to be seen. The device is way to locked down to have any kind of definitive answer.

It would be nice to have confirmation from a reliable source on this … like SK Telecom.

With all the rumors and speculation prior to Helio launch it was probably a mistake to list that under entertainment features … anyways, Adobe is now quite interested in how other people use the word “Flash”.

It might make sense to copyright the term “Flash Mobile” and “Mobile Flash”? I’m not even sure if this would be possible.

Obviously, just plain “Flash” would be nearly impossible.

05/09/2006 – “Mobile Flash” is no longer listed as a feature under entertainment. I would guess Adobe’s appeal finally got to Helio …
