viliv p1 - crouching tiger … hidden API

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

So I’ve been playing with the viliv p1 for a few days.
I won’t do the formal product review of all it’s features just yet as there are a couple of things I want to sort out first.
However, I did want to post some of the benchmark numbers and talk about the Flash Lite 1.1 [...]

Flash Lite presentations at the FlashBelt Conference

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

While at FITC, Dan Patterson was telling me about this year’s FlashBelt. It’s a fairly new conference (this will be it’s second year?) that’s sprung up in the MidWest … I heard about it last year.
Looks to be a small one, but if you’re in the US it might be worth checking out. It takes [...]

Back from Fitc 2006

Monday, April 24th, 2006

I’m back from fitc 2006. Rather than post the whole adventure I’ll just post some highlights and random thoughts … Besides, did you really think AS3, Flash Video, Processing, or Flex 2 WOULDN’T be big there? Check out all the very innovative preso’s being posted.
Funny “Stuff”:
TSA (Transportation Security Agents): Strangely enough they never asked me [...]

Nokia PC Suite 6.8 upgrade available

Monday, April 24th, 2006

If you’re a Flash Lite developer with a newer version of PC Suite, it probably already alerted you that a new point release is available. This post is just an FYI.
Not too much that is new, but a couple features to mention (besides perhaps the maintenance fixes):

Transfer music to your phone with upgraded Nokia [...]

Cellphone GPS services find their way into (US) market

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Nothing surprising here … but this article is good light read for those based in the US interested in LBS.
3 of 4 major providers offer plans to aid navigation in service areas.
Yay, another push to catch up to everyone else in the world.

Even NTT DoCoMo had to start somewhere …

Take a look at this vintage Mobile Z PDA circa 1994 on ebay.
They’ve come a LONG way! Almost looks like the Apple Newton.

“u-platform” Flash Lite application

Friday, April 14th, 2006

UPDATE: Never mind. I found the english translation and replaced all the links and placed some info below. It is in fact an “application bundler”.
I’m not entirely sure what this is: plusu.flash-mobile.com … but it appears to be something like Alessandro’s Biskero app.
I’m sure lis186 will post if he see’s this since that’s where [...]

iriver E10: New Flash Lite embedded device?

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Trento posted about this today (I saw it a couple days ago but the pics I found online were crap and couldn’t make out the UI).
I am following up. Here is more information.
I haven’t been able to find a definitive source that says it has Flash Lite on it … but judging from [...]

viliv p1 - Unlimited Excitement?

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

The viliv p1 is finally here (in the US). It says “unlimited excitement” right on the display …
So far that is true. Here is the unpacking process. I’ll post a review in a bit, stay tuned … and yes I read the recent CNET review. I’ll reserve my own judgement thank you.
Also [...]

Deconstructing a Flash Lite Application

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

I came across this and thought it was worth posting.
Justin Everett-Church is giving a presentation called Deconstructing a Flash Lite Application on April 26 2006. It is a free event and might be a session for someone that is just getting into FL from desktop Flash (or J2ME for that matter).
Here are the [...]
