Flash Lite Friday Digest #3
March 24th, 2006 by Scott Janousek![]() |
Flash Lite Friday Digest is a condensed and organized set of links that help users to get a weekly overview on the Flash Lite mobile world. |
Greetings Flash Mobi-lites. This is the latest rendition of the F.L.F.D (Flash Lite Friday Digest)!
If I forgot something you think is important please feel free to post it in the comments below.
Without further ado, here’s the recap of this week’s news (in no particular order).
We had an Adobe Flash Mobile User Group presentation put on by Chris Blair of Zodal. Chris talked about a Flash Lite 2.0 gaming platform they are developing.
We reported that Jonathan Duran (Adobe), had posted a new Devnet article: Loading, Parsing, and Locally Storing XML in Flash Lite 2.
In an interest to see what people had globally in their pockets, I posted Mobile Device Baton - What’s in your pocket?. The baton traveled into Taiwan and India via lis186, and is still propogating.
Bill Perry (Adobe), posted his webDU 2006 presentation entitled: Creating Flash Lite 2 Video Applications. The download includes the presentation itself, as well as a couple examples of video content in Flash Lite 2.
Now, for some great news on the “Flash Mobile ecosystem” front. Smashing Ideas has officially announced to become a Flash Lite Content Aggregation and Distribution Business (via Alessandro). What’s more, they are working on a Flash Lite DRM (Digitial Rights Management) solution as part of their Smashing Content aggregator. A rollout is scheduled for later this year into next.
In regards to Flash Lite Training, Dale Rankine of Moket has officially announced some dates that he will be giving the official Adobe authorized Flash Lite training in Australia (via Alessandro). This is a 3 day intensive course that the Flash Lite community put together last year headed by James Talbot (Adobe) and the rest of the training team.
Marco had some posts: Are operators an obstacle to the adoption of Flash Lite? and Mobile thoughts: an interview with the father of WURFL, Luca Passani. Don’t know what WURFL is? An open source effort to thwart device fragmentation. A serious issue for mobile (FL included)!
Blue Sky North announced a new game called Burger Time … not to be confused with the intellivision Burger Time game though (ironically, Todd Anderson did a desktop “homage” recently). Completely different game play. According to BSN, this will be available as a download sometime in the near future.
Got Flash Mobile? PSP will “officially” now. This has been circulating around quite a few blogs recently. Andrea Trento posted a recent photo of what looks like the official announcement. So looks like a custom player port is underway. No word from Adobe, and I’m pretty sure we won’t hear anything … “No comment” with a period instead of a exclamation point.
I found this sweet US-based company, plemix, selling really cheap phones. Their S/H is a tad on the expensive side, but if you need a unlocked device with no plan, you might want to check out: plemix. They are based near Seattle, WA. My experience so far has been good. Comparable to mobilebee and expansys.
eqo released a mobile skype application. Pretty cool. At first I thought the UI was done with Flash Lite (inside a shell), but that’s not the case … it just reminded me a lot of something Macro created a while back!
Anyways, it uses some “trickery” to communicate between your desktop skype and a client on your phone. Handy, until skype comes out with something better (I think they only have a PPC version right now).
Some other mobile links of interest this week:
- Paypal Offers Mobile Paypal and Text 2 Buy
- New Blog: S60 User Experience
- Nokia pulled the n80 from the US site (via Darla Mack). Not sure why.
That’s all I had to say.
Got a link of interest? Something we missed? Post it below. After all, that’s what it’s there for!
Stay tuned next week for another weekly Flash Lite Friday Digest.
Same bat-time, but DIFFERENT bat-channel.
