Joshua Davis and Helio articles in Wired Magazine
February 23rd, 2006 by Scott JanousekIn the latest article of Wired (March 2006), there are 2 things that you might think are cool.
Mostly about Josh and Brandon’s “generative composition machines”, which they showed last year at FITC 2005.
I still remember Josh explaining how he got the idea for the tool website from a Super Mario brother game with the “fucking secret” door that “made him nutz for days and nights” … as he might say. Not a direct quote, but close.
See the photo below for an output example of the algorithm given a set of critiera (aka stuff), Josh did for the music group tool.
Anyways, it’s cool and I’m sure you’ve seen his work in one place or another … this is what happens when you put creative genius in touch with a creative architect.
Hey, you know what? I have a feeling this is first time a Flash Developer has made it into Wired, please correct me if I’m wrong (added: see below for Rob’s comment).
All about the crazy koreans, their phones, infrastructure overseas (SK telecom) … and how a handful of guys hope to jump on the MVNO ride here in the States with their company: Helio.
If you haven’t heard of an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), it’s basically a network operator that buys minutes (infrastructure) etc from the “big guns” and resells/delivers a more customized/rich experience to their customers (typically 20-35 age group) … you can check out AMP’D and Helio.
What’s interesting is that Helio will supposedly bundle Flash Lite as posted by Marco Casario a little way back.
Judging from the AMP’d job posting I posted about a while back, AMPD probably does too.
I’m sure you’ve seen the AMP’d commercials, as they are quite good at getting your attention. EPSN has another one (you can get scores, news, etc.). There are a couple other players in the MVNO space as well.
Anyways, just a couple articles in Wired that you might want to check out.

Hey Scott, cool post.
Actually Wired has covered Flash and Flash developers several times in the last few years, the one I remember when Lisa Delgado, a contributor to Wired, was covering FlashForward several years ago when Flash Enabled had come out. Found this Article about it, where she covered FlashForward and Phil Torrone in particular - http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,53687,00.html - this was one of the first big pushes of mobile stuff too - man we have come a long way in the last few years! Keep up the great posts! -Rob
