Newer version of Nokia PC-Suite (6.7) out
December 18th, 2005 by Scott JanousekA new version of Nokia PC-Suite (6.7) is available for all you Flash Lite folks out there with (newer) Nokia products. You can find out your current version by going to help->about in the menu … and if you’re running a 6.x version, it may actually tell you there is an update out there now (see the red arrow for the text location) … I don’t think it prompted me with a dialog …
Another thing, BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, make sure you are willing to chance Nokia software (I just had some weird stuff happen during install, but ultimately it seemed to go fine) … it’s always a good idea to check with your local system administrator BEFORE upgrading (if you are the system admin, then lucky for you
).
Bluetooth “funkiness”:
FYI: The ultimate reason why I upgraded PC-Suite recently was my bluetooth was yet again being finky … is it me, or does bluetooth under Microsoft XP have a lot of bugs. Maybe it’s my particular driver … or maybe my crappy XP box … but I’ve had dropped connections, weird dialogs, and the old skool: try it once it fails, try it again 1 second later and it works type deal … compared to my MAC, the bluetooth implementation on PC is hap-harzard. I have yet to have a problem with bluetooth on a MAC! Oh, well. The good thing is bluetooth is only temporary until WiFi phones (and devices) are mainstream.
Couple workflow features for Flash Lite authoring to add to the IDE:
One more thing … I’ve heard 3 people including myself talking about incorporating “transfer to phone via bluetooth/wifi” as part of the Flash authoring tool. A nice possible feature for the next Flash IDE release … it would eliminate one step in the production/development cycle and make everyones lives a little easier (instead of finding the .swf and then sending it via shortcut) …
I’m already using Robert Hall’s OSX automation script which is nice, but on a PC I don’t have such a workaround yet.
Also, it would be useful, if under publish settings, a “create .sis” feature could be implemented. I imagine this is a bit tough to implement, but it might be practical … to again streamline deployment for Flash Lite apps.
Not sure if Adobe wants to get into packaging sis’s in the IDE … probably, leave as a 3rd party option … just another idea.
