Struggling with mobile device clutter? Here is my simple solution … a “device shelf”
December 2nd, 2005 by Scott JanousekSo, if you’re like me you usually have 5 or more devices that you use either all the time or sporadically … these devices are usually the latest and greatest and get rotated out with new and better devices every few months … it’s an addiction, fortunately a good one … unfortunately, an expensive one … and you can’t really afford to drop or crush that brand new u10 or even worse … brand new n-series Nokia (which sadly I don’t have yet).
Anyways, storing all the devices on my work desk was becoming just too haphazard … not enough room, clutter, etc … so I decided to fix the problem.
Now, I have a “device shelf” to store my devices. Basically, it’s just one strip of velcro attached to my monitor shelf. All my devices have velcro on the back now. It works, but it’s not as slick as the display rack Macromedia has at their mobile pavillion.

Just thought I’d share in case you run into the same predicament …
I was actually trying to track down an old army ammo belt to store them while I’m out and about (you know, like the one Stallon wore in Rambo?), but I thought might provoke some strange looks … so it’s probably sticking to mobile docker pants, photographer’s vest, or a nice mobile jacket like the one Scott evest makes.
I’m not sure if we’ll ever have one device that does it all, but we should be able to come close in a few years.
