Nokia holds fire on mobile gaming … focus shifts to mobile music and TV

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Having bought an original n-gage as a test-bed device for FL 1.1 development … this caught my eye recently. Not really suprising … Read the announcement: Nokia holds fire on mobile gaming … focus shifts to mobile music and TV. Basically, they are suspending their n-gage gaming efforts for a bit.
I think this [...]

Flash Devices video from Robert Hall

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Rob just posted a “review” of some of the flash devices that are on market right now. Most of them you have probably seen already, but if not, here they are … up close and with a good deal of technical narration.
The Samsung is probably the one you haven’t seen a lot. It is [...]

“Wolfram Tones” - custom, unique ring tones generated using Mathmatica and your input!

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

I came across Wolfram Tones recently. This system uses Mathmatica and your input to generate a custom, very unique ringtone. Also includes a visual representation (cellular automaton sample pattern seen below) of the ring tone! Neato.! Yet another example of why Computer Science rocks.

QR Codes

Friday, November 18th, 2005

For those who haven’t heard of QR codes, they’re a form of barcode that encode various kinds of text information, such as URLs, in a form that can be read by many cameraphone handsets overseas. The most common usage is that you’d snap the code printed on a poster or in a magazine to jump [...]

PocketMod - print your own low-tech mini-book

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

This is for all your friends, family, & relatives out there that aren’t quite tech savvy, you know … the one’s who buy the PocketPC’s or cellphones and can’t get the data to synch, load apps, etc, etc, etc. This is for them. A low tech solution to having (static) mobile info.
It’s a [...]

My “Frankenstein Elmo” … a homegrown projector for Mobile (Flash Lite) content

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

I believe it was in March of this year that Rob Hall posted about his “virtual elmo”. A homegrown projector device & software that can be put together for *far* less than $2000 … which BTW is what a real elmo will run you these days (email me if you find something cheaper!).
Recently, I did [...]

www.savekqix.org … Save King’s Quest IX petition

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

Are you an “old skool” Sierra type guy/gal? I was … I think I played every Sierra game that ever came out (before they were bought out).
Help these folks out … it’s been a work in progress since 2002 and now some corporate idiot wants to scrap all that work (just before a [...]

The iRiver U10 is now shipping here in the States

Friday, November 4th, 2005

Just a quick FYI, but the U10 is now officially shipping here in the States.
From a recent Q&A session with Bill, I believe it was said that a U10 CDK is in the works from Macromedia. I am guessing it is further along since FL 1.1 content is already preloaded and was developed [...]

Flash Lite 1.1 “Function Clip” and a little trick we learned from the Mobile XD MAX session

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

Bravo for the folks who put on the XD-mobile session at MAX this year. Not only was informative, but it was the kind of info you can’t normally pick up from a book, site, etc. Therefore it was invaluable.
For those of you who skipped the XD sessions thinking they were all theory and no [...]
