New Nokia 6680 and Mobilebee customer experience
July 30th, 2005 by Scott JanousekHi Folks,
No, I’m not going to review the nokia 6680, since Russell Beattie already did a review of sorts a while back … however, I did want to give a short synopsis of my mobilebee customer experience.
Who is mobilebee?
They are a shop that sells phones & other electronics online … I had heard that Macromedia (& some of the flashlite dev team) had bought from them in the past so I thought I’d give them a try on a phone that I wasn’t able to get through my carrier (yet), the Nokia 6680.
Here is how they describe themselves:
“Cell Phones, PDA ,WIFI and Accessories by the Biggest Names in the Industry ? From Nokia to Sony Ericsson and More!
Mobile-Bee delivers quality mobile phones, PDAs and other communication devices and accessories at competitive prices!! From brand named mobile phone carries like Cingular, Nextel, Sprint and T-Mobile, and cell phone companies such as Sharp, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson, from PDA manufacturers like PalmOne, and Toshiba to WI-Fi labels like Linksys, D-Link and Ambicom, Mobile-Bee provides you with all of top cell phones, pda and wifi equipment and accessories available on the market. From our state-of-the-art facilities, we can deliver you the latest in communications equipment ? quickly. Problem #1:
Anyways … back to the story … I put my order in on 7/11/2005. It may have been a fluke, but my phone didn’t arrive until 7/27/2005 … and what’s more is that it was because they were having “technical problems” with their system … hmmm. Just an FYI. Most likely it is a such a popular phone you must wait for the stock to catch up.
Problem #2:
The phone they sold to me must have been direct from China.
The phone was intially set to chinese and 90% of the docs were in chinese … again, possibly a fluke.
It was interesting having a foreign experience on a phone in terms of UI. Surprisingly I was able to navigate around the OS without too much trouble.
However, it wasn’t until Rob Borcic from Macromedia gave me instructions to get to the language settings, that I got it into english mode. That was a relief (thanks Rob).
Problem #3:
The power adapter was made for overseas, not US.
Not really a big deal since my 6600 charger seems to work fine, and also my i-go (if you are mobile with a laptop you might want to check out igo … it’s an interchangable system for recharging all your devices & laptop, without all the bulky power supplies and cords … check them out at Radio Shack).
Praise #1:
I was actually able to get a 6680 at a decent price. Well, at less than trying to get it direct from Nokia or another vendor.
Praise #2:
Their online ticket system actually generates responses. It may not have been the response I was looking for, but at least they have some customer support doing their job.
Summary:
Mobilebee did an ok job at getting me a very popular phone in a relatively short amount of time … I will probably buy from them again.
However if you are looking for a 6680, I recently read that nokia may be selling the 6681/6682 direct from their site soon.
Check out this page to see if you can get your hands on one direct.
Also, if you are shopping around it may be good to check out expansys as well. They are another company similiar to mobilebee, but hq’ed in the UK I believe.
Finally, how is the 6680? It’s a really sweet phone (well for the US market at least). It makes the 6600 look like a dinosaur.
Anyways, it’ll probably be my primary Flash Lite phone until beginning of next year.
For all Flash Lite developers out there, I highly recommend this phone for 1.1 development as well as future releases of FL.

Ciao Scott,
I am in the process of deciding which phone to buy and from whom.
So great to read a review like this one.

I was looking for feedbacks on Nokia 6680 and bumped into your site with Mobilebee review and
decided to share my experience. I ordered a phone k750 from them in December 2005 and happily received the package in 2 days. Though, after I unpacked it, the phone appeared to be silver, while I wanted to have black!
I emailed them and found out that they do not guarantee color of the phone if you can’t pick up the color on site. Not very convenient. Though, their service is rather good, phones get shipped quickly, they reply to emails almost simultaneously. I intend to purchase that Nokia from them.

Hello,
I am currently looking for a PDA where the phone and wi-fi components can be used simultaneously. I have a Samsung SCH-i730 and cannot receive phone calls while my phone is synching with my emails, if that makes sense. If you know of any phones where wi-fi and the phone work at the same time, please let me know. thank you.

Mobilebee.com sell phones not made for the US cellular market. They are not the place to buy Motorola products. Motorola will not warranty Mobilebee sales. YOU the buyer get stuck with the un-warrantable product, whle Mobilebee has your money

Beware of Mobilebee.com. They show items as being IN STOCK, when they know very well that it isn’t. I am currently going through this problem with them. After I made them aware of this 2 weeks ago, their only response was “Unfortunately we haven’t updated our web site yet.”
There have been 15 complaints to the NY BBB during the past 12 months.

This company sucks. I recommend everybody never ever purchase anything on their website. I ordered a cell phone more than 3 months ago, but it was out of stock. In their rules, they said that:
“1.1 Your credit card will not be charged until the day we ship your goods. ” but they charged me when I didn’t even see the cell phone.
“1.2 If your goods fail to arrive within 28 days of dispatch, you will have the option of either a full refund or a replacement shipment. ” now more than 3 months already and no refund at all.
I called them and sent them a lot but email. But the answer I get are “sorry I dont know” “please accept our apologies for the delay” “i will request our financial department”
So attention everybody, what I recommend is never use this site, also tell your friends so.

Anh. Yes, I posted about mobilebee quite a while back … in fact, my view of the company has changed as well, recently.
Within the past few months, I initially tried to purchase a Nokia N95 from them.
It was on order for MONTHS and they kept bumping the ship date on their website. A really lame marketing attempt at trying to keep orders open IMHO. They kept saying it was due to Nokia and their delays. This may in fact have been true … However, later when it WAS shipping through other vendors I discovered that they didn’t even manage to secure ANY stock. I ended up buying direct from Nokia which was actually CHEAPER and FASTER. Go figure.
Thumbs down from me on mobilebee as well!
I could go into other stories from people I know, but I won’t as your story paints a similar picture.
